AIDS LEGAL Network, South Africa

The AIDS Legal Network (ALN) is non-governmental human rights organization based in Cape Town, South Africa. Founded in November 1994, ALN is committed to the promotion, protection and realization of fundamental rights and freedoms of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS through capacity building, education and training, research, networking, campaign, lobbying and advocacy activities.

ALN’s primary focus is to respond to legal and ethical challenges presented by HIV and AIDS realities. ALN’s main goals are to: address discriminatory practices and attitudes, promote behavioral change and facilitate a holistic human rights-based response to HIV/ AIDS. The specific aims include:

  • Promoting legal literacy and human rights education.

  • Responding to violations of human rights.

  • Promoting behavioral change ensuring the dignity of all people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

  • Promoting law reform to advance the rights of people living with, and affected by HIV/AIDS.
